Glossary
Crowdfunding can seem like a brand new world, especially when people around you speak in a different language. Fear not! Here’s a short glossary of crowdfunding terms that will help you on your journey:
Add-on
An optional extra item that backers can purchase in addition to their main pledge. Add-ons can include expansions, accessories, merchandise, or bonus content.
All-in
A pledge level or bundle that includes everything offered in the campaign – often at a discounted price compared to buying each item separately.
Author / Creator
The person or team behind the project. They’re responsible for designing, producing, and delivering the rewards promised in the campaign.
Backer
Someone who supports a crowdfunding campaign by pledging money. In return, backers usually receive rewards based on their selected pledge level.
Early Bird
A limited-time or limited-quantity pledge level offered at a lower price or with exclusive bonuses to encourage early support.
Free Reward
An extra item or bonus (like a mini-expansion or digital goodie) added to backers' orders for free – usually as a thank-you or stretch goal achievement. Often exclusive to backers.
Fulfillment
The process of producing, packing, and shipping rewards to backers after the campaign is complete. This includes manufacturing, logistics, and delivery.
Late Pledge
A way to support a project and order rewards after the crowdfunding campaign has ended – usually through a pledge manager. It’s like a second chance to back the project.
Pledge
The amount of money a backer contributes to support a campaign. A pledge can be tied to a specific reward level or be a custom amount. Backers confirm and finalize their pledge in a pledge manager.
Pledge Manager
A post-campaign tool (like Gameflight) where backers confirm their pledge level, select rewards, provide shipping info, and pay for shipping or add-ons.
Scroll
A visual layout technique used on campaign pages to reveal content gradually as users scroll. A well-designed scroll keeps information engaging and digestible.
Update
A post from the creator to keep backers informed about the project’s progress – such as production updates, shipping timelines, or new unlocks. Backers receive these updates via email or on the campaign page.
Split Payment/Installment Payment
Split Payment means dividing the total cost of your order into multiple smaller payments over time, instead of paying everything upfront.
Waves
In crowdfunding and fulfillment, waves refer to separate shipping phases for different parts of your order. Sometimes, not all items are ready at the same time - especially in large board game campaigns. To avoid long delays, creators may choose to ship available items earlier, and send the rest later.
If your pledge includes items across multiple waves, you will receive more than one package - and in some cases, additional shipping fees may apply for each wave.
FAQ
What is Gameflight and how does it work?
Gameflight is a tool that helps creators manage the funds gathered through crowdfunding campaigns. It is also essential for you, backers of those campaigns: you can confirm the rewards you’ve selected during the campaign, settle the additional costs (such as shipping and taxes) and provide creators with delivery information necessary for the fulfillment.
Gameflight’s functionality is not limited to just managing the funds you pledged during the crowdfunding period: it also allows anyone to join in on the project after the campaign has ended.
Why do I need to use a pledge manager?
Often during crowdfunding campaigns, information you provide to the creator is limited – e.g. creator receives your nickname, information about the reward you’ve selected and amount of funds.
First and foremost – campaign creators need your address to be able to deliver the rewards you pledged for. Also, there are usually additional costs that need to be calculated, such as shipping costs and taxes, which vary from case to case. This is where Gameflight comes in. Once you fill out your billing and shipping date, the system will calculate the shipping costs and taxes that will match your delivery address.
Keep in mind that each campaign is different, each creator manages their project in a slightly different way – always make sure to rely on the information provided to you by the creators.
Can I upgrade or change my pledge in Gameflight?
Absolutely! You can add new products to your order for as long as the project is open. If you want to change the existing state of your order, please contact the project's creator directly.
Can I edit my shipping address later?
Yes, it’s possible to change your address on Gameflight. You can change your billing and shipping address details specified for your order on Your Pledge page.
If you want to change your shipping and billing country, please contact the project’s creator directly.
When do I pay for shipping?
Generally, shipping costs, as well as applicable VAT/Sales Tax, will be calculated after you enter your shipping and billing address in the Pledge Manager. Please consult the project’s creator directly for most accurate information.
I lost my Gameflight link or didn’t get the email. What should I do?
No problem! Make sure to contact the project’s creator directly, they will be able to re-send you the activation link to your account.
Can I return or cancel items in Gameflight?
We offer a no-questions-asked refund policy up until the shipping date of our products. If you change your mind or need to cancel your order, simply contact us at support[at]itustudio[dot]com – we’ll be happy to help.
Refunds are typically processed within 2 weeks.
Please note that processing fees (usually 8 -10%) are non-refundable. These are costs charged by our payment provider.
If your pledge consists of multiple components bundled together (e.g., a base game + expansions), we are unable to issue partial refunds for individual items within the bundle. In such cases, refunds can only be made for the entire pledge.
How and when are VAT or sales taxes charged?
VAT (Value Added Tax) or local sales taxes may apply based on your shipping address and regional tax regulations. These taxes are calculated and collected during the Gameflight checkout process to ensure a smooth and compliant delivery. Tax rates vary by country – the final amount will be clearly shown before you confirm payment.
Payment didn’t go through – how do I resolve it?
If your payment isn’t going through:
- Double-check your card details and billing info,
- Try using a different payment method,
- Contact your bank (some banks may block unfamiliar online charges).
Still having trouble? Reach out to our support team at support[at]itustudio[dot]com and we’ll assist you directly.
You will find your payments history and status on Your Pledge page under "Payments list" link.
I missed the campaign – can I still get the game?
Yes – we will open Late Pledge access as soon as original backers receive their Gameflight invitations. If you're seeing this message before Late Pledge has launched, don't worry – you're just a little early!
We recommend signing up to our newsletter or following our updates to be notified the moment Late Pledge goes live.
Can I join just for the add-ons?
In most cases, yes! If Late Pledge access is open, you can enter Gameflight without having backed the campaign and choose only the add-ons you want. Minimum order values or shipping fees may apply depending on your location.
